Letterpress Lab_UAPLUS_617_347

Design students spend most of their time in front of a computer, but many are now falling in love with old printing practices and typesetting through the recently-expanded Book Arts & Letterpress Lab. Having to sort letters one at a time, ink the rollers and hand-crank a letterpress provides a sense of artistic satisfaction to an increasing number of University of Arizona students looking to expand their design skills.

UA+ spoke with a visual communications professor, a student and the president of the Book Art Collective about how the letterpress lab came about, how it works and why people are becoming more interested in it. Watch the video to see some equipment in action and the handcrafted end products of this revived printing process.
