The Arizona Mirror reported that two leading health policy nonprofits say Arizona is one of nine states with laws that would trigger the automatic loss of health insurance to millions of Americans — most working full or part-time at low-wage jobs like cashiers, drivers, janitors, and cooks — if federal funding is cut.
Numerous reports say that Republicans in Congress and Trump allies are considering major cuts to federal funding for Medicaid, known as AHCCCS in Arizona.
Federal funding for the Medicaid expansion during the Obama administration enabled hundreds of thousands of low-income Arizonans to access health insurance. If that federal coverage should drop below 80% of costs, “trigger” provisions in state law could cause those people to quickly lose coverage.
