A Pima County Grand Jury, Friday, indicted Julio Aguirre on first-degree murder charges for allegedly shooting a man dead while trying to steal his car. Other county charges include attempted robbery, multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and more — for an alleged crime spree involving a total of 8 victims.

The incidents took place on June 30, but the county says before Aguirre could be booked into Pima County Jail, federal agents took custody of him.

The federal government is charging Aguirre with the lesser charges of carjacking and illegal use and possession of a firearm.

Federal court records say Aguirre, a Mexican citizen, was on parole at the time of his arrest and that he was arrested at least a dozen times between 2007 and 2013 for immigration related crimes and was deported in 2013.

According to the county, Aguirre remains in federal custody at an undisclosed location, and federal officials have given county prosecutors limited access to him.
