The Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona mission is to foster equity and opportunity for women and girls.
They focus on grant making through research and leadership development, with the goal to ensure economic self sufficiency for women and girls in the community, said Hillary Rosenfeld of WFSA.
"(Goal is to create) understanding that investing in women and girls...betters the entire community as a whole," she said.
WFSA's leadership portion features a philanthropy program, where they recruit teenage girls from around Tucson to participate. The girls learn about social justice issues, grant making, and then have the opportunity to give back to the community.
Claudia Torres is a graduate of the program, about to graduate from the University of Arizona. She said she entered the program when she was about 15 years old, and three years later served on the organization's board of trustees.
Torres reflects on her exposure to WFSA, and the benefits its brought to her and other women and girls' lives.
American Graduate segments were produced in corporation with Tucson Values Teachers.
