UPDATE: Ex-Staffer Files Horne Campaign Complaints

Claims portion of attorney general's executive staff violates state laws by working on his 2014 re-election campaign.

Listen:

Lawyer for a former staffer for Attorney General Tom Horne has filed campaign complaints against Horne.

Sarah Beattie is alleging a portion of the attorney general's executive staff has been violating state laws by working on his 2014 re-election campaign on state time.

She said high-level staffers sent her emails regarding campaign issues during work hours. In the claim, Beattie also recounted meetings with Horne and others to talk about campaign events.

One of the staffers she names is Kathleen Winn, who was accused, alongside Horne, in another complaint of illegally coordinating independent expenditures during the 2010 campaign.

An administrative law judge recently recommended those charges be dismissed. Prosecutors are expected to decide this week whether or not to drop the charges.

A conservative Republican blog posted that Beattie was a plant for Horne’s GOP opponents. The blog claims her sole job was to dig up dirt on the incumbent.

Horne said he maintains his innocence.
