A proposed route for the widening of Broadway Boulevard can be viewed by the public.

The widening would make the road six lanes wide with a center median and sidewalks and bike lanes in each direction.

The current proposal, released by the Citizens Task Force, would make the sidewalks and bike lanes uniformly six-feet wide.

A plan put out by the City of Tucson staff had varying widths for sidewalks and bike lanes that were six feet wide at their narrowest points.

Portions of the road expansion will take place on city-owned property, though portions of it will take place on privately-owned land.

And while portions of that privately-owned land is parking lots, there are commercial buildings and houses along the path.

The Citizens Task Force will present the proposed widening project to the public at an April 23 open house at the Sabbar Shrine Hall, 450 S. Tucson Blvd. A time has yet to be determined.

The plan is then expected to go before the Mayor and City Council in May.

The project is estimated to cost $71.3 million, and is funded by the Regional Transportation Authority Plan. Work is slated to begin in 2017.
