AZ WEEK: Department of Child Safety Works to Improve

A recent audit found the agency needs more money to solve its problems

Arizona’s child welfare agency underwent massive changes last year. Arizona Week Friday looks at how the Department of Child Safety is serving Arizona families.

On the program:

  • A conversation with Daniela Preciado, a former foster child, now a foster mother, who says there’s been very little change to the agency. In the last seven years, Preciado has welcomed more than two dozen children into her home.

  • Over the summer, a Department of Child Safety audit found more money is needed to fix the agency’s problems. Greg McKay, the director of the Department of Child Safety, sits down for an interview from our Phoenix affiliate, KAET.

  • Casa De Los Ninos is one of the many organizations that works closely with the department of child safety. Host Lorraine Rivera interviews CEO Susie Huhn.
