The city of Tucson has had a long and active Trees for Tucson program (Part of Tucson Clean and Beautiful) which has been working in the community since the 1980s. More recently, Mayor Jonathan Rothschild has intensified the effort by pledging to plant thousands of trees. Since elected in 2011, at least 10K have been planted as part of community-wide efforts and the “next batch of10K” will soon begin going into the ground, Saturday 29 Aug 15. Scientists say trees are vital to all of us and nature to clean the air, provide shade and shelter, beautify our communities and help reduce temperatures among others.
