September 11th Commemorative Concert

Multi-Faith Alliance to gather in Tucson on 9/11

A diverse group of residents from Southern Arizona are getting together on the ninth anniversary of the attacks of September 11th, hoping to increase respect and understanding between all cultures and religions.

Songs of Humanity: A 9/11 Commemorative Concert will held Saturday night at Temple Emanu-El in central Tucson. It will include solo, instrumental and group music and involve representatives from different religions or spiritual practices.

Rabbi Sam Cohon is one of the organizers and he says the event should help participants and audience members learn more about each other. “You know, I have a theory. I think that goodness is just as contagious as hate. I think that when you start to do good things then you create communities based on good action, " he says.

Sat Bir Kaur Kulsa is also an organizer. She is of the Sikh faith tradition and she says one of the key principals is to protect the rights of all people. “People need to know that people can get along despite their differences and people need to know that there are people from all viewpoints who are working for peace," she says.

The event begins at 7:30 pm and audience members are encouraged to bring a can of food which will be donated to the Community Food Bank.
