The goal of housing homeless veterans in Tucson and Pima County came a step closer with the opening of a 44-unit affordable housing complex near Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Wednesday.
State dollars, county bonds and low-income housing tax credits financed the project, which got underway nearly a decade ago.
“Those tax credits are then sold to provide the majority of the capital investment for the project,” said Marcos Ysmael, housing project manager with Pima County.
The complex is on 44 acres but only takes up about three acres of land. Developers said more units and services are planned.
The city’s goal is to end homelessness among veterans.
