Northern Arizona University says it recently discovered a student had rented out a dorm room on Airbnb.

University spokeswoman Kim Ott said Friday the school contacted the vacation rental site and had the listing removed. She says the student remains enrolled at the Flagstaff-based university but is facing disciplinary action for violating school policy.

Ott says the room had a single bed and an attached bathroom, and the student gave renters access to the residence hall. She says housing officials and university police recently became aware of the listing and told the unauthorized guests to leave.

Ott did not name the student and says she cannot discuss specific disciplinary action.

She says social media presents new challenges to ensuring student safety and privacy.
