Nicholina Torreros, a student participant at the Tucson International Mariachi Conference, talks about this year\\u0019s conference which will be held at the Casino del Sol.

One of Southern Arizona's largest annual events, the Tucson International Mariachi Conference, will be celebrating its 30th anniversary by hosting the event at a new location.

The conference, which usually takes place in Downtown Tucson, will move this year to Casino Del Sol, with events beginning on Wednesday, April 25 and continuing though Saturday, April 28.

All events open to the public will benefit La Frontera Arizona, a community social service agency.

"We hope that by moving to the casino that were going to be able to start making money so that we can turn over, especially to the child family center," said Delfina Alvarez, a member of the Tucson International Mariachi Conference Board, in an Arizona Illustrated interview.

But the benefits of mariachi don't end there, says one student of mariachi.

"It's a lifetime experience, it helps you build your self esteem, getting on stage, you meet new people and you also reunite with people from the past," says Nicholina Torreros, a student conference participant.

The first of five concerts will be held on Thursday, April 26 at 6 p.m. at the AVA Amphitheater at [Casino Del Sol]http://www.casinodelsol.com/), and will showcase over 500 elementary, middle school, high school and college mariachi students.

Tickets for all events can be purchased through Casino Del Sol.
