The Tucson mayor and city council voted unanimously to extend the moratorium on evictions for city-owned housing units through June 2022.
The moratorium was set to expire at the end of 2021.
Council Member Richard Fimbres said with the growing number of new COVID-19 cases, renters still need support.
"This is not the time to end the city’s moratorium of city-owned and operated housing units," Fimbres said at a mayor and council meeting on December 21st.
U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva also sent a letter this week to the Treasury Department to request additional Emergency Rental Assistance Funds for Tucson and Pima County. Without the funds, ERA in the city and county will run out in mid-January.
