Light Rail Construction Continues on 4th Avenue

Northern end of commercial district reopens to traffic; southern end closes

Construction for Tucson’s Sun Link Modern Streetcar continues along the 3.9 mile route, linking the University of Arizona Medical Center to Downtown Tucson and to the Mercado District on the west side of Interstate 10.

Progress is being made in incremental steps, and a section of Fourth Avenue was recently reopened after nearly four months of construction. Businesses had reported sales declines of up to 30 percent during the closure.

The southern stretch of Fourth Avenue will be fenced off for the next four months, and the entire project is scheduled to be completed sometime in the fall of 2013.
