The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is working with the San Diego Humane Society to hire a licensed private investigator to work with the independent investigator they previously hired to continue the investigation into what happened to 250 small pets, covertly given to a family with connections to a snake feeder business in August.
The two humane societies released a statement today saying they are hiring the private investigator to continue looking for information on what became of the 250 rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and rats that were transferred to Trevor Jones, in Apache Junction.
So far, the only information shared from Trevor and his brother Colten Jones, who runs the Fertile Turtle and sells live and frozen snake feed online, is that the animals were adopted out to families, although they have refused to provide any documentation or proof.
The humane societies’ joint statement also said their legal teams are working collaboratively to pursue legal action if any laws have been broken related to the outcome of the animals.
The statement said this incident, which former head Steve Farley was fired over, has been one of the most challenging periods in both organizations’ histories and that they pledge to work together to find out the truth.
