Pima Animal Care Center has been recognized for having a high life-saving rate in the nation.
Best Friends Animal Society, an animal welfare group, has recognized PACC for having a 90% life-saving rate for cats and dogs in the 2022 calendar year.
PACC is also on its way to achieving the same no-kill status in the 2023 calendar year, Monica Dangler, Director of Animal Services, said.
Best Friends used a platform called Shelter Pet Data Alliance to calculate PACC’s life-rate release. The platform was designed to give shelter professionals 1data on local and national shelter trends.
PACC achieved the highest life-saving rate compared to 18 other shelters across the United States. PACC also had a 64% adoption rate, which was 25% higher than other shelters.
Dangler believes PACC has high rates of live releases and adoption because of investment and transparency with the community, she said.
Investment has allowed PACC to increase staff that focuses on adoptions, fostering, and return-to-home efforts.
“This data is proof that we have an extraordinarily caring community who values shelter pets,” Dangler said.
PACC has an in-shelter euthanasia approach, which contributes to the high life-saving rate. Many shelters euthanize animals for space, PACC reaches out to the public
Many shelters euthanize animals for space, PACC has an in-shelter euthanasia approach which contributes to the high life-saving rate. PACC also reaches out to the public for adoption help before euthanizing an animal.
“I am certain that sharing the need with our Pima County residents and allowing them to be part of the solution plays a huge role in our ability to send so many animals into homes every year,” Dangler said.
