Construction of the Tucson Modern Streetcar line will keep downtown streets barricaded for another month, says the head of a public-private development group.

That means businesses affected by the work must continue reaching out and need public support, says Michael Keith, president and CEO of the Downtown Tucson Partnership. He predicts street reopenings sometime in September.

"Those businesses are still there and they still need business," Keith says. "It's really easy to get to, remarkably easy. The garages are easy to get to, and there's no traffic."

In addition to the streetcar project, new student housing and possibilities of new hotels and up to 14 new restaurants are in the works for the coming year downtown, keith says.
