Despite being the incumbent in a Democratic stronghold, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is struggling to keep up with his Republican challengers’ fundraising.
According to Pima County campaign finance data, Republican candidate for Pima County Sheriff Heather Lappin has raised four times as much money as Nanos in individual contributions this election cycle.
In the quarter ending on Sept. 30, which was primarily general election spending, Nanos spent about $48,000, while Lappin only spent about $16,000.
A large portion of Nanos’ funding came from a $40,000 dollar loan he gave himself. He’s loaned similar amounts to his campaign in previous elections, including just under $40,000 in 2020 and $9,000 in 2016.
Lappin did not use any of her own money in her campaign.
