A memo to the Board of Supervisors said overdose deaths among minors decreased from 8 in 2023 to 1 this year, and the overall opioid overdose mortality has plateaued.
The county says reasons for the decrease are multifactorial and include the county’s ongoing harm reduction strategies such as distributing Narcan units, case management services, tribal partnerships, mental health first aid training, and an advisory Committee to evaluate funding priorities.
The county also says their preventive programs have reached nearly 17,000 residents. And the board approved $400,000 in opioid settlement funds to address the needs of pregnant individuals and for mobile services to rural communities.
