Alva Torres Plaza

Dedicated in honor of Alva Bustamante Torres, a fourth generation Tucsonan and community activist who fought to preserve important sites during Tucson’s Urban Renewal of the 1960s & 70s.

La ciudad de Tucson dedicó la plaza TCC en honor de Alva Bustamante Torres, una tucsonenese de cuarta generación y activista comunitaria. Estaba particularmente involucrada en los esfuerzos de conservación históricos de sitios culturales mexicanoamericanos. Alva encabezó estos esfuerzos a los principios de los 1970’s para preservar La Plaza de la Mesilla en el centro de Tucson cuando renovaciones urbanas grandes estaban tomando lugar. La autora Lydia Otero aboga por la permanencia en honor del trabajo de Alva Torres, activista por la conservación histórica del barrio viejo de los años 60 conocido como “La Calle”. La plaza TCC ahora lleva su nombre y la historia de defensa.
